Baseball Goes 1-2 Against Trinity University

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Baseball team went 1-2 in their three-game series against Trinity University.

The Mountaineers were at home for their three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) matchup against the Tigers from Trinity University.

Schreiner would move to 7-16 overall and 2-3 in SCAC play after picking up one win against the Tigers throughout their three-game series.

Game 1 SCH 4 – TU 10

The Mountaineers opened up the series struggling to keep pace with the Tigers at the plate as they were held to just 4 runs scored through nine innings, compared to Trinity's 10 runs scored.

Leading the effort at the plate was Gerardo Cardoza (Grad. / Mission, TX) who went 2-2.

On the mound, it was Fito Mendez (Junior / Ennis, TX) who was credited with the loss after pitching 5.0 innings and giving up 6 runs on 24 batters faced.

Game 2 SCH 4 – TU 0

The second game of the series was a completely different story as the Mountaineers pulled off the upset and shut-out the nationally ranked Tigers.

Leading the effort at the plate was a combination of senior leadership. Joseph DiCarlo (Senior, Chandler, AZ) went 1-2 with a double and 3 RBI, Tyler Juarez (Senior / Pasadena, TX) went 2-2 with a double and an RBI, and Gerardo Cardoza went 2-3.

On the mound it was Trey Bennett (Freshman / Willis, TX) who was credited with the win after pitching 6.1 innings and only giving up 2 hits and zero runs on 23 batters faced. Also making an appearance on the mound was Luke Rogers (Junior / Tualatin, OR) who was credited with the save after closing out the game and pitching 2.2 innings.

Game 3 SCH 1 – TU 14

The final game of the series went back in favor of the Tigers as they got their bats going again at the plate and forced a run rule to be called after the seventh inning of play.

On the mound, it was Max Sauceda (Freshman / Poteet, TX) who was credited with the loss after pitching 2.0 innings and giving up 4 runs on 10 batters faced.
