WHAT IS SAAC?
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) represents the Division III student-athlete voice in the Division III governance structure by reviewing legislation; identifying significant student-athlete issues; implementing national student-athlete based initiatives; encouraging community outreach; and enhancing Division III student-athlete involvement in and understanding of Division III in general.
DIVISION III SAAC MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the NCAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenets of the Division III philosophy.
PURPOSE OF SAAC:
This may vary across different institutions, but the NCAA states that the following four purposes should serve as basic guidelines when developing a SAAC and its strategic plan:
• Generate a student-athlete voice within the institution
• Generate a student-athlete voice within the conference
• Review and respond to proposed NCAA legislation
• Support the campus and conference community through community outreach efforts, with a primary focus on the NCAA Division III SAAC and Special Olympics partnership
