Baseball Splits Double-Header Against Austin College

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Baseball team split their road conference double-header against Austin College 12-8, 5-3.

The Mountaineers traveled to Sherman, Texas, for the road Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) matchup against the Kangaroos from Austin College.

Schreiner moved to 6-14 overall and 1-1 in SCAC play after winning their first game in Sherman and dropping the second game.

The Mountaineers were originally scheduled to play the Kangaroos in a three-game series at home, but due to weather concerns, the games were moved to Sherman, Texas. However, the poor weather continued in Sherman as well, causing the two teams to just play a double-header on Sunday.

Game 1 SCH 12 – AC 8

Schreiner opened the double-header with a strong hitting performance as they put 12 runs on the board and saw production from the top to the bottom of the lineup.

Leading the effort at the plate for Schreiner was Joseph DiCarlo (Senior / Chandler, AZ) who went 4-6 with an RBI. Also with a productive showing at the plate was Seth Joseph (Senior / Pflugerville, TX) who went 3-5 with 3 RBI.

On the mound, it was Fito Mendez (Junior / Ennis, TX) who was credited with the win after pitching 6.0 innings and only giving up 5 runs on 25 batters faced. Also making an appearance on the mound was Luke Rogers (Junior / Tualatin, OR) who pitched 3.0 innings and only gave up 3 runs on 12 batters faced.

Game 2 SCH 3 – AC 5

The second game of the double-header saw more of a defensive effort from the Kangaroos as Schreiner was held to just three runs scored through nine innings. The Mountaineers would put up a total of 12 hits, but struggled to send them all home.

Leading the effort at the plate was Joseph DiCarlo (Senior / Chandler, AZ) who went 4-4. Also with production at the plate was Gerardo Cardoza (Grad. / Mission, TX) who went 4-5 with a Home Run, a double, and 3 RBI.

On the mound, it was Max Sauceda (Freshman / Poteet, TX) who was credited with the loss after pitching 3.0 innings and giving up 2 runs on 11 batters faced.
