Rick Tovar, a proud San Antonio, TX native, is a highly experienced softball coach with over 18 years of dedication to coaching and developing athletes. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio in 2001 and has since built an impressive career in sports coaching.

For nearly two decades, Rick has coached travel select softball teams with organizations such as American Freedom, Proform Fastpitch, and Under Armor Softball Academy, shaping young players from 2006 to 2024. In addition to his coaching with select teams, Rick served as the Assistant Softball Coach for Texas A&M San Antonio from 2020 to 2023, where he helped guide the newly established program to its first NAIA Regional Conference tournament in 2023.

Rick's coaching qualifications are extensive and include certifications from USSSA Softball, ACE Coaching, FASA Coaching, and USA Softball, demonstrating his commitment to professional development and excellence in coaching.

Outside of his coaching career, Rick is a family man. He has been married for 22 years to Elizabeth Tovar, who holds a BA in Criminal Justice from St. Mary's University and is currently pursuing her MA in Higher Education Management at Angelo State University. They have three children:

  • Riana Tovar, 23, who earned a BA in Communication Management from Texas A&M San Antonio and played softball from 2021 to 2023.
  • Alina Tovar, 20, who is studying Communication Management at Schreiner University while continuing her softball career.
  • Gabriel Tovar, 17, a high school student at Sandra Day O'Connor High School, where he participates in football and track.

Rick is also a passionate angler and an active bass fishing enthusiast. When he's not coaching or spending time with his family, you'll find him following his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He shares his home with two dogs: Lola, a 9-year-old Shih Tzu, and Lilly, a 5-year-old terrier.
