KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Men's Basketball team earned the 2021-22 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Academic Excellence Award, released Tuesday. The Mountaineers also had rising senior Bronson Evans named to the NABC Honors Court.
To garner a Team Excellence Award, a program must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for the 2021-22 season. To earn a spot on the Honors Court, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior varsity player, while maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. The Honors Court therefore recognizes collegiate basketball student-athletes who have excelled in academics during their entire career.
The Mountaineers achieved a 3.14 GPA during the academic year to be recognized with the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award. The Moutaineers finished the season at 12-4 in SCAC play, setting a school record for conference wins and advanced to the semi-finals of the SCAC Championship Tournament.
Evans, a rising senior from Houston and key contributor for the Mountaineers, is majoring in Psychology. He was an honorable mention All-SCAC selection this season, averaging 9.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest. His rebounding mark put him at 6th best in the league. Evans also ranked in the top 15 during conference play in offensive rebounds and blocks.
