Softball Takes Series Against Southwestern

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Softball team won their conference series against Southwestern University this weekend 2-1.

GAME 1 - Schreiner 0 - Southwestern 3

In game 1 of the series, the Mountaineers fell to the Pirates in extra innings 0-3. It took nine innings to finally declare a winner, when unfortunately, the Mountaineers were unable to answer the Pirates' three runs scored in the top of the 9th.

Even in the loss, it was a still a strong performance by pitcher, Bri Wodtke, who pitched all nine innings and only gave up 10 hits on 41 batters faced.

GAME 2 - Schreiner 6 - Southwestern 1

In game 2 of the series, the Mountaineers had a great bounce-back performance as they defeated the Pirates 6-1.

Leading the offensive effort for Schreiner was Hannah Kollmansberger who went 2-3 at the plate and recorded 2 Singles and 1 RBI.

On the defensive side, it was Kaylee Culpepper who lead the way in the circle. Culpepper pitched a complete game with 6 Ks through 7 innings and only gave up 5 hits on 29 batters faced. As a reward for her impressive outing, Culpepper also picked up her 4th win of the season.

GAME 3 - Schreiner 11 Southwestern 3

In game 3 of the series, the Mountaineers forced a run-rule on Senior Day, as they defeated the Pirates 11-3 in just 5 innings.

Leading the offensive effort were seniors Marisa Hernandez and Elicia Gonzales who both finished with 1 Single, 1 Double, and 3 RBI.

On the defensive side, it was senior Marley Hilton who lead the way from the circle. Hilton pitched all 5 innings, only gave up 6 hits on 26 batters faced, and picked up her 2nd win of the season.

Up next, the Mountaineers will head to Irving, Texas, where they are set to take on Southwestern University in the 1st round of the 2022 SCAC Softball Championships.
