Shotgun Competes at ACUI National Championship

KERRVILLE, TX: This past weekend, the Schreiner University Shotgun team competed in the ACUI National Championship.

After a long and hard-fought week, our Mountaineers are back home from the ACUI National Championship. Though it did not end up how they had hoped, and the weather was less than cooperative for everyone all week long, the team kept on fighting to the very last target. Over the past 5 days, they shot 6 different events. Starting on Tuesday with Super Sporting, Sporting Clays, American Skeet, Skeet Doubles and finally American Trap and Doubles Trap on Saturday. Out of a possible 3000 targets for a team score, Schreiner ended up with 2822, which placed us with 3rd place in Division 1 and 4th place team Overall out of the 95 programs represented at the tournament this year.

Some of the team highlights include Runner up Champs in Doubles Skeet with a 486/500 just behind 1st by 1 target. 3rd place overall in American Trap Doubles with a 477. The team also earned Division 1 1st place finishes in American Skeet, American Trap, Super Sporting and Sporting Clays. Division awards were done a little differently this year 1st – 3rd place was open to all teams and then it went to Division. On the Individual side, Schreiner Shotgun had 3 Individual Champions, Louis Oviedo was named the Inaugural ACUI Men's Doubles Skeet Champion and as reported before, Matthew Kutz and Sarah Sherlock are the Men's and Women's Bunker Champions. Will Perry also won 1st place Men's combined Doubles events with a 195/200. Finally, All-American Awards were earned by Will Perry 562/600 (First Team) Garrett LeJeune 561/600 (Second Team) Jacob Cameron 559/600 (Second Team) and Jonathan Goedrich 551/600 (Honorable Mention).

"We would like to give a Huge thank you to Kathi Goedrich, all the parents that helped this week with the compound and everyone that donated! That absolutely would not have been possible without everyone, and it truly made this year's nationals great! Can't wait to see what we can do next year. Also, would like to thank Hill Country Shooting Sports, National Shooting Complex and Joshua Creek Ranch for allowing us to train at their facilities this year. We made a lot of progress and can't wait to get back to work for next year. Finally, congrats to A&M on their Championship this year glad to see it stay another year in Texas." - Damien Giles, Schreiner Shotgun Head Coach
