KERRVILLE, TX: This past weekend, the Schreiner University Shotgun team participated in the annual ACUI Lower Midwest Regional Tournament.

The weekend began with the Sporting Clays event where Schreiner finished in 3rd place as a team with a 453/500. Individual awards went to junior Jacob Cameron who finished 2nd in the open category with a 95/100. Sophomore Jenna Ziemelis finished 3rd with a 87/100.

They concluded day one with American Skeet where the Mountaineers finished in 3rd place as a team with a score of 484/500. Freshman Lexi Shaw also earned 3rd place in the Women's category after a 3-person shoot-off finishing with a 96/100.

Going into day two, the Mountaineers found themselves in a tough spot down 6 targets with two events remaining, two events that are very difficult to make up targets in, a 50 target Super Sporting and 100 American Trap targets.

First up was Super Sporting and the Mountaineers shot an excellent 239/250, which ended up being tied for 1st place. Unfortunately, they were only able to make up 1 target in the deficit, with the top 4 Teams only being separated by 1 target. (239 – SU/Lindenwood, 238- A&M/ASU). Jacob Cameron just missed the podium after a 5-person shoot-off finishing with a 49/50.

In the final event, American Trap, Schreiner was the final team to shoot. The Mountaineers shot a respectable score of 492/500 which was once again tied for 1st place as a team. Freshman Carson Childress and Senior Ryland Downs just missed the podium after a 7-person shoot-off finishing with a  99/100.

HOA (High Over-All) awards: Jacob Cameron 2nd place (Open) with 339/350 Jenna Ziemelis 2nd place (women) with 317/350 Team 3rd place with 1668/1750

After a good comeback run on the final day, the Mountaineers ended up 1 target short. This was one of the closest tournaments in recent memory, after 2 days and 1,750 targets. The 1st and 2nd place teams ended up tied with 1669/1750, and 3rd place 1 target down at 1668 which will no doubt set up a very exciting National Championship March 22-26.
