Men's Basketball Gets Fifth Straight Win

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Men's Basket ball got their fifth straight conference win this evening against Texas Lutheran University 64-60.

The Mountaineers can't be stopped! Schreiner Men's Basketball pushed their win streak to FIVE tonight after defeating conference opponent Texas Lutheran University.

It was a battle for all 40 minutes in the Stephens Family Arena as the Mountaineers gave everything they had to defeat the Bulldogs from TLU 64-60. Schreiner found themselves down at the half, but went on to put together an 18-0 run in the 2nd half, swinging the momentum all the way back to their side. After trading blows back and forth for the remainder of the 2nd half, Schreiner ended up with possession of the ball and an opportunity to take the last shot with the game tied 60-60.

Senior point guard Alex Dehoyos dribbled the clock down to the final seconds before taking a step-back jumper for the win. However, when his shot looked like it was going to fall short, it was freshman big man Kamden Ross who came to save the day. Ross positioned himself perfectly and tipped the ball in, giving the Mountaineers the lead with just 2 seconds left on the game clock.

The Mountaineers then put together another strong defensive stand and forced a 5-seconds inbounds violation on the Bulldogs, giving Schreiner the ball back, which then sent freshman Beau Cervantes to the free throw line to close out the game. Cervantes knocked down both free throws and the Mountaineers went on to win the game 64-60.

Leading the way for Schreiner was none other than the big man Kamden Ross who put together another monster double-double performance of 19 points (game high) and 15 rebounds (game high), as well as 2 blocks, 2 steals (team high), and 2 assists. Also contributing was Bronson Evans (7 PTS, 13 REB), Darian Gibson (10 PTS, 4 REB), Dylan Mackey (9 PTS, 6 REB), and Alex Dehoyos (5 PTS, 8 REB, 3 AST).

Up next, the Mountaineers will look to keep the momentum rolling as they continue conference play with a matchup against Colorado College here at home.
