Men's Wrestling Wins Schreiner Duals Tournament

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Men's Wrestling team hosted and won their Schreiner Duals tournament this past weekend.

It was a very strong showing for the Mountaineers and new Head Coach Mario Vasquez as they opened up their season in dominant fashion. the Schreiner Duals consisted of teams from Schreiner University, the University of Houston-Downtown, the University of Texas, and Texas A&M University.

In the first set of matches, the Mountaineers took on a dual team of the University of Houston-Downtown/the University of Texas. It was a great start for Schreiner as they won the dual 34-6. 

Bobby Espinosa got things rolling for Schreiner by scoring 6 points for a pin on his ooponent. Nikoa Simoa scored 3 points for a decision in his match. James Yarbro scored another 6 points for pinning his opponent. Nick Hammond added on three more points for a win by decision. Juan Sanchez followed the trend and scored 6 points for a pin. Joha Anderson racked up another 4 points. And finally, Robert Hernandez closed things out with one more pin for 6 points, ultimately leading to a very strong 34-6 team win for the Mountaineers.

In the second set of matches for Schreiner, the Mountaineers put up a clean sheet and easily won their dual against Texas A&M University 50-0.

This was a statement performance for the Schreiner Men's Wrestling team and new Head Coach Mario Vasquez who have now proved that they are certainly a force to be reckoned with this season.
