Cross Country Opens Season At Westside Classic

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams traveled to San Antonio, TX, this weekend to run in the Westside Classic hosted by Our Lady of the Lake University.

This was the season opening event for the Schreiner University Cross Country teams, as well as the first event for Interim Head Coach Eric Grider, and the Mountaineers came out with a bang!

The Men's team finished fifth overall in the race, and were first among Division III schools that participated. Marco Hernandez lead the way for the Mountaineers as he finished with a time of 30:54 in the 8K. This race was a fantastic start to the season for the Men's Cross Country team as they look to make a serious impact in the SCAC this year.

It was also a landmark season opener for the Schreiner Women's Cross Country team as they were able to run as a team for the first time since 2018 and finished their race with an official team score for the first time in three years! The Mountaineers finished the race 8th overall, and were 3rd among Division III schools. Sarah Endres lead the way for the Women's team as she finished with a time of 26:44 in the 6k.

This was a huge leap forward for the Mountaineers, as they take all the neccessary steps to be serious competitors this season!

Up next, both team will be traveling to Austin, TX, to compete in the Concordia Classic hosted by Concordia University.
