Schreiner Recognizes Women's Track & Field Seniors

KERRVILLE, TX: With the season for our spring sports coming to end earlier than expected, Schreiner Athletics wanted to recognize the seniors for each of these sports.

A statement from Director of Athletics Bill Raleigh:

"As all of us deal with this unprecedented Coronavirus pandemic, Schreiner Athletics wanted to recognize the Seniors from our Spring Sports. All these athletes handled themselves with grace and dignity as the announcement came down to originally suspend then cancel the remainder of the Spring Season.  They have been great representatives of Schreiner University and the athletic program. We are very proud of these fine student-athletes and wish them the best as they graduate and head out to conquer their next challenge,

Thank you for all your hard work!"

We start our recognitions with our Women's Track & Field program's two seniors, Amber Harris and Amber Jones. Here is what Head Coach Kendall Luy had to say about her two seniors:

Amber Harris | San Antonio, TX

"Amber was the first woman at Schreiner University to score points at the SCAC track & field conference championship. Our conference championship last year was Amber's best meet of that season. She competed in both relay events and both horizontal jumps. She very easily could have given up after her first event of the competition, when she came running down the triple jump runway, tripped and fell – scrapping up her legs and destroying her spikes. But she got up, said she was ok, rigged-up her shoes, cleaned up the scrapes and got back on the runway to score us the first points ever for our women's team. But if you know Amber at all, that doesn't surprise you. She is a fierce competitor; she's determined and passionate. All qualities that are going to make her an amazing teacher and coach."

Amber Jones | Bangs, TX

"Amber became a part of the women's track & field team while we sat and watched a Schreiner basketball game. I'm not sure she realized what she was getting herself into, but I'm incredibly glad she sat down and asked about the team. Amber has an incredible work ethic – she pushes herself and her teammates. Even when she has a rough practice, she keeps going and doesn't complain. I'm going to miss her work ethic, but more importantly her leadership. She was the big sister to all her teammates – going above and beyond to help her teammates on and off the track. She would step-up and do all that was asked of her and even what wasn't. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Amber."
