Mountaineers Work Hard in the Classroom

KERRVILLE, Texas -- KERRVILLE, Texas -- Schreiner University athletic programs achieve success in the classroom as well as the athletic arena!

Eleven of the thirteen athletic programs achieved higher than a 3.0 for a team GPA, with the overall student-athlete GPA being a 3.10. Women's Golf led the way with a 3.63, followed by Softball with a 3.46. On the men's side, Men's Tennis had a 3.20 followed by Men's Golf with a 3.14. 

There were a total of 79 student-athletes that earned academic distinction this spring semester. The Mountaineers had 53 student-athlete earn Presidential Honors (GPA of 3.75 or higher) with 26 of those students earning a 4.0. The remaining 26 students earned Dean's LIst (GPA of 3.5 or higher). 

"Overall, our student-athletes did an outstanding job in the classroom as well as on the field of play this semester and are the eptiome of the true-student-athlete" said Bill Raleigh, Director of Athletics. 

The Mountaineers placed seventh overall for the SCAC President's Trophy; which points are awarded based on final standings in conference play. The men earned the highest point total since Schreiner joined the conference. The Men's Basketball team winning the Conference Championship was the highlight for the department and we are working hard to become more compeitive in all our sports to improve our standing in the SCAC.
