Women's Soccer Shuts Out Centenary College 2-0

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Women's Soccer team won their conference match against Centenary College this afternoon 2-0.

It was a great day of soccer out on Mountaineer Field this afternoon as the Mountaineers picked up their first conference win of the season against Centenary College, moving them now to 1-1 in conference play.

Schreiner came out of the gates hot, putting pressure on the Centenary defense early, and forced a penalty kick that yielded the first goal of the day for the Mountaineers in just the 12th minute of action. The PK was taken by freshman Midfielder, Cassandra Ochoa, who placed the shot perfectly in the bottom left corner. That goal was Ochoa's 2nd of the season as she now sits in second place on the season's goals scored list.

The remainder of the first half was highlighted by Schreiner's strong defensive play as the Mountaineers continued to shut out Centenary College for the remainder of the 1st half.

As the 2nd half got underway, it was freshman Forward, Ashley Esparza, who would put the second goal on the board for the Mountaineers after a corner kick for Schreiner rebounded out to Esparza who followed it up with a nice touch into the bottom right corner. That goal would be Esparza's 4th of the season as she continues to sit on top of the season's goals scored list.

Similar to the 1st half, it was the strong defensive play by Schreiner again that highlighted the rermainder of the match as the Mountaineers continued to shut out Centenary through the 2nd half and went on to win the match 2-0.

Standing out on defense for Schreiner was junior Goalkeeper, Audrey Rivera, who had a perfect match in net with 5 saves on 5 total shots on goal.

This win marked Schreiner Women's Soccer's first shut out win since 2018, and their first conference win over Centenary College since 2017.

Up next, the Moutaineers will remain at home as they continue their conference play with a match against the University of St. Thomas on September 25th, at 1:00 PM
