LAWRENCEVILLE, GA: Zahra Cross, a first-year guard from Austin, Texas, has been named SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, Monday January 27 through Sunday, February 2.
Cross led Schreier to a pair of victories as the Mountaineers went on the road and defeated Centenary (65-50) on Friday and University of St. Thomas (88-82) on Sunday - giving the program its first road conference sweep since January 20 and 22 of 2017.
Cross had 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, including 5-of-6- from three-point range in Friday's victory at Centenary. She added three rebounds and three steals. On Sunday, Cross had a team-high 19 points and chipped in with five rounds from her guard position to lead Schreiner to an 88-82 upset of St. Thomas - handing the Celts just their second home loss of the season.
For the weekend, Cross averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game and shot 57.1 percent (12-21) from the field. She also connected on 50.0 percent (6-12) from long range and 87.5 percent (7-8) frm the charity stripe.
