Softball Splits with SAGU Lions During Home Opener

KERRVILLE, TX: The Mountaineers hosted the Southwestern Assemblies of God University for a non-conference double-header on Friday evening. Schreiner fell to the Lions in extra innings 1-3 in the first game, before coming back and defeating SAGU 3-1 in the second game.

GAME ONE: The score remained 0-0 through seven innings. Freshman, Bri Wodkte pitched the first four innings for the Mountaineers before junior, Hannah Ortiz pitched the remainder of the game. The Lions scored their three runs in the top of the eighth before Schreiner responded with a single run.

GAME TWO: The Lions were the first to score in the second game in the top of the second. Schreiner responded with single runs in the third and fourth innings before scoring their final run in the sixth inning. Kennedy Moody pitched the first three innings of the game, sophomore Amanda Timmerman followed with two innings, before Kaylee Culpepper finished the game.

UP NEXT: The Mountaineers will begin conference play on Friday March 8, in Georgetown, Texas against the Southwestern Pirates at 5:00 and 7:00 PM.
