Baseball Drops Home Series to Mary Hardin-Baylor

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner Baseball team hosted the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in their first home series of the season. The Mountaineers fell to the Crusaders 2-5 and then 0-3 to go 0-3 during the weekend.

GAME TWO: The Mountaineers came up short against the Crusaders losing 5-2 in the second game of the series. Starter Jordan Garcia battled through 3 innings only giving up 1 run. The Mountaineers matched that run in the 2nd before the Crusaders put together a big inning in the 4th. Your Mountaineers answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the 4th making the score 4-2. From there the Crusaders put on 1 more run in the 5th and the Mountaineers couldn't climb out of the hole. Chance Goins turned another multi-hit game and Josh Gilliam, Eric Sheffield, and Ben Benavides all slugged doubles as well. Rey Garza turned in 2 scoreless innings in relief.

GAME THREE:  Schreiner put up a great effort in a tight third game. Devin Hooper started the game for the Mountaineers. The Crusaders put up 3 runs over the first 4 innings of the game. Schreiner had some trouble stringing together hits but swung the bats well in a 9-hit performance as a team. Jack Hakala posted 2.1 scoreless innings, and Dylan Blevins posted 2 scoreless innings as well. Josh Gilliam put up a scoreless frame as well while also contributing 2 hits. Austin Contreras had a big game at the plate with 3 hits, 2 of which were doubles. Reece Hohhertz also produced a multi-hit game.
