Women's Wrestling Team Takes 2nd at NCWA National Championships

Schreiner University women's team sends six to nationals and brings home six All American awards!! In their first year, the Mountaineer women's team finished second at the NCWA Nationals, just 2.5 points out of first place. They managed to achieve this with only 6 wrestlers in the tournament, five less than the winning team who brought 11. The young team has battled injury for most of the season and unfortunately had 3 of their teammates still out injured. There is absolutely no disappointment in the effort that the six girls put forth, putting three in the finals and three in the consolation finals. Alyssa Alvarez, who wrestled up in weight class to help the team and walk away a National Champion at 235 pounds! It is Alyssa's second national championship in two years, and her third national finals. Alicia Messer and Miriam De La Garza both finished national runner ups, Allie Mahoe and Serena Cervantes both placed third, and Liliana Madani, who stepped up big to help her team, walked away an All American with a fourth-place finish! An outstanding effort by these girls in their first year; big things to come from them in the future. Big thanks to our guys team who helped with the training of many of these girls and were there to support them as they became NCWA All Americans!
