Softball Sweeps Howard Payne On The Road 9-1, 7-2

BROWNWOOD, TX: The Mountaineer Softball team scored a total of 16 hits off 28 hits to earn a road sweep of Howard Payne University on Tuesday afternoon 9-1 and 7-2.

In Game One senior pitcher Hannah Oritz went the distance pitching all 7 innings, scattering 5 hits while striking out 6 to earn the win. Freshman Taci Tatum got the scoring going in the first inning when she hit a bases clearing 3 RBI double in the first inning before hitting her first career home run int he 6th inning for another 3 RBI finishing the game with 3-3 with 6 RBI. Fellow freshman Malorie Solis was 3-4 while Mackenzi Oltmann also had a multi hit game going 2-4.

In Game Two sophomore pitcher Kennedy Moody earned the win going 7 innings, scattering 5 hits and striking out 5. Solis again had a multi hit game giong 4-5, scoring three runs and 1 RBI. The bottom half of the line up produced well for the Mountaineers as Melanie Castilla, Courtney Bigley, Marisa Hernandez, Moody, and Carrie Fulton each had two hits and bring in five of the seven runs.

Upcoming: Softball will open SCAC play on Friday, February 28th when they travel to Sherman, TX to take on Austin College in a three-game series starting at 6 PM Friday night.
