Baseball Opens Series with Double-Header Loss to Concordia

AUSTIN, TX: The Mountaineers opened their series in Austin, Texas against Concordia falling to the Tornados in their doubleheader 4-8, and then 2-12 . 

GAME ONE: Concordia put together an unearned run in the first and maintained the lead until the Mountaineers scored four runs in the fourth inning. It was a 5-4 game into the bottom half of the fourth where the Tornados added on another run before adding two more in the bottom of the fifth. The final score was 4-8. Sophomore, Jeffrey Williams had a two-hit game. Ben Benavides, Jeffrey Williams, and Dominick Garcia all had doubles in the contest. Garrett Whitley, Jack Hakala, and Dylan Blevins all contributed on the mound.

GAME TWO: In the second game of the double-header, the Mountaineers fell to the Tornados 2-12. The Mountaineers were the first to score, before Concordia responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, and another four in the fourth. Schreiner's second run of the game occurred in the fifth inning. The Tornadoes tacked on three more in later innings. Jeffrey Williams had another two-hit game. Josh Gilliam, Jeffrey Williams, and Caleb Valchar all contributed doubles. Jordan Garcia, Tate Sherman, Jack Hakala, David Hill, Rey Garza, Tyler Skinner and Caleb Allen all contributed on the mound.
