Baseball Takes Series Against Austin College 2-1

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Baseball team went 2-1 in their road conference series against Austin College; 10-5, 4-2, 17-7.

The Mountaineers traveled to Sherman, Texas, for their three game conference series against the Kangaroos from Austin College.

GAME 1 (SCH 10 - AUS 5)

In the first game of the series, the Mountaineers went up early with 4 runs scored in the second inning and held on to that lead for the remainder of the game. They would go on to score 1 more run in the 3rd, 4 runs in the 7th, and 1 run in the 8th to ultimatley win the game 10-5.

Leading the offense for Schreiner was junior, Tyler Juarez, who finished going 3-5 at the plate with a Home Run and 2 RBI. Also with a strong hitting performance was graduate senior, Devin Hooper, who went 3-4 at the plate with 2 Doubles and and RBI.

On the mound, it was Brandon Cardenas who would be credited with the win, moving his season record to 1-0.

GAME 2 (SCH 4 - AUS 2)

In the second game of the series, the Mountaineers again took the lead early and never gave it up. Schreiner would score 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 1 run in the 5th, and 1 run in the 7th.

Leading the offense was senior, Gerardo Cardoza, who finished going 3-5 at the plate with a Double and an RBI.

On the mound, it was Fito Mendez who would be credited with win and Daniel Garza who would be credited with the save.

GAME 3 (SCH 7 - AUS 17)

In the final game of the series, momentum would finally shift in favor of the Kangaroos. Austin College would build up a size-able lead early, scoring 9 runs in the 1st inning. Despite their best effort, the Mountaineers would be unable to dig themselves out of the hole they found themselves in early in the game.

Despite the loss, it was still a strong performance at the plate by junior Adam Sanchez. Sanchez finished going 3-5 at the plate with 3 Doubles and an RBI. Also with a strong hitting performance was Gerardo Cardoza who went 2-5 with a Home Run and 4 RBI.

On the mound, it was Devin Hooper who would be credited with the loss.
