Baseball Sweeps Series Against Dallas Christian College

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Baseball team swept their four game home non-conference series against Dallas Christian College 16-1, 12-4, 2-1, 7-3.

The Mountaineers were at home for their home non-conference series against the Crusaders from Dallas Christian College.

GAME 1 (SCH 16 - DCC 1)

Schreiner opened up the series with a dominant offensive performance, recording 16 runs in just 7 innings of play.

Leading the way at the plate for the Mountaineers was senior catcher, Gerardo Cardoza. Cardoza finished with a 3-4 hitting performance that included a Triple and 2 RBI. Also witha strong hitting performance was Devin Hooper who went 3-4 witha Double and 3 RBI, Isaiah Hernandez who went 2-4 with a Double and 3 RBI, Tyler Juarez who went 2-4 with a Triple and an RBI, and Adam Sanchez who went 2-4 with a Double

On the other side of the ball, it was also a great defensive showing for the Mountaineers has they held the Crusaders to just one run. On the mound was Devin Hooper who was credited with the win as he pitched six innings and recorded 8 strikeouts, moving him to 1-1 on the season.

GAME 2 (SCH 12 - DCC 4)

Game 2 of the series was more of the same for Schreiner as they continued to pile on runs in bunches. Gerardo Cardoza continued to add to his impressive series hits total by going 2-3 at the plate and recording a Double. Also with a strong offensive performance was Adam Sanchez who went 1-2 at the plate with a Double and an RBI.

On the defensive side of the ball, it was strong showing on the mound by Brandon Cardenas who piched 4 innings and was credited with the win, moving his record to 2-0.

GAME 3 (SCH 2 - DCC 1)

The third game of the series was the closest of the series. The Crusaders put the first run on the scoreboard and held on to the lead until the 5th inning. However, Schreiner would tie the game up in the 5th inning and then take the lead in the bottom of the 6th inning with a solo Home Run hit by Joseph DiCarlo. Continuing his hot streak at the plate was Gerardo Cardoza who went a perfect 3-3 and recorded an RBI.

Getting the win on the mound was Fito Mendez who pitched a complete game and recorded 3 strikeouts while only giving up 4 hits, moving his record to 1-1.

GAME 4 (SCH 7 - DCC 3)

Closing out the four game series, the Mountaineers came out struggling, giving up 3 runs early in the 1st first inning. However, sophomore pitcher, Luke Rogers, came in as the relief pitcher and turned the game around on the defensive side for Schreiner. Rogers would pitch the remainder of the game, recording 9 strikeouts and only giving up 3 hits and would ultimately be credited with the win, moving his season record to 2-1.

On the offensive side of the ball, it was yet another impressive showing at the plate for Gerardo Cardoza who went a perfect 4-4 and recorded a Double and 2 RBI. Cardoza would finish the four game series connecting on 12 of his 14 total at bats.
