Women's Soccer Defeats University of the Ozarks 3-1

KERRVILLE, TX: The Schreiner University Women's Soccer team took home the win in their season opener this afternoon, defeating the University of the Ozarks 3-1.

The Melanie Chandler era of Schreiner Women's Soccer opened with a bang, as the Mountaineers cruised past the University of the Ozarks to pick up their first win in over two seasons.

The dominant showing by the Mountaineers was lead by none-other than freshman forward, Ashley Esparza. Esparza was unstoppable against the Eagles as she completed a hat-trick, scoring two goals in the first half, and another in the second. Esparza will now join the rarified space of Schreiner players who have scored three goals in one game, putting her officially tied for 2nd on the all-time records list.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Mountaineers played a very solid game, only giving up one goal on the day with just 5 total shots on goal. It was junior goal keeper, Audrey Rivera who picked up the win in goal, moving her season record to 1-0.

Up next, the Schreiner Women's Soccer team will remain in Arkansas as they take on Hendrix College on Sunday at 11:00 AM.
