Marwan Elrakabawy Named Interim Head Men's Basketball Coach

KERRVILLE, TX – Schreiner University Director of Athletics, Bill Raleigh, has announced that Marwan Elrakabawy has been named the interim head men's basketball coach for the 2019-2020 season.

"I am pleased to have Coach Elrakabawy transition into the role of interim head coach of our men's basketball program," said Raleigh. "With his leadership we hope to continue the positive trajectory of the men's basketball program in the classroom and on the court."

"My wife Erin and I are humbled and blessed for the opportunity to continue our work with the Schreiner University community," said Elrakabawy. "I want to thank President Dr. Charlie McCormick, Dean Dr. Charlie Hueber, and Director of Athletics Bill Raleigh for their trust in me to lead the men's basketball program and to continue the success of the last several seasons under Coach Kuykendall. It's a privilege to continue my role in the lives of these student-athletes and I will work hard to put these young men in the best position to be successful on the court and in the classroom."

Since June of 2017, Elrakabawy has served as an assistant coach for the varsity program and as the head coach for the junior varsity team. For the last two seasons, Elrakabawy assisted former head coach Connor Kuykendall in claiming the SCAC Regular Season Conference Title, the SCAC Tournament Championship, and the program's first berth to the NCAA National Tournament in the 2017-2018 season and then in qualifying for the SCAC Tournament in the 2018-2019 season.
